Obituary of Emma Carol Jones

EMMA CAROL JONES, 98 of Pleasantville, New Jersey, departed her earthly life on November 25, 2010, to live with her heavenly Father. Emma was born October 4, 1912, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, born the youngest of eight children to the late Warren and Nellie (Shepperd) Jones. Emma attended the local Peaks School in Norfolk, VA. As a child, she was baptized at the Peaks Baptist Church where she attended regularly. Emma met and married Willie Walker. There were no children from this union. Later she moved to New York, where she performed domestic work. Years later, she moved back to Norfolk, Virginia, with her brother Gassie, and sister Billie. Emma became "Mother" of the Rising Star Baptist Church. She worked for the Jenkins family performing domestic work, and she became an extended part of their family. When her brother passed away in 1984, she started visiting her sister-in-law, Alease Booker. When she retired in 1994, she moved in with her niece, Catherine Miles in Pleasantville, New Jersey, in 1995, being an independent person, Emma moved to the Jeffries Tower untill her illness in December of 2009. She then became a patient at the Meadowview Nursing Home. Deaconess "Mother" Jones was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Pleasantville, New Jersey, as well as a missionary and hostess of the church, which she attended regularly until her illness in 2009. She was called "Auntie Em" by her family, and "Sugar Momma", as she was affectionately known, from the nurses at Meadowview. Emma had a great sense of humor, wit and charm. Everyone who came in her presence loved her. She never complained. She would say that "God always knew and provided what she needed before she asked". Emma is predeseaced by: her brothers and sisters, Alex, Suzie, Mattie, Lizzie, Annie, Billie, and Gassie. She will be sadly missed by all. She leaves to cherish her fond memory: her nephews and nieces, Robert Jones, Gassie "Billy" Jones, James "Walter" Jones, Conrad "Cb" Booker, Catherine Miles, Mary Bannister;her great niece, WaStella Johnson; four(4) generations of nephews and nieces;nurses at Meadowview;her caregivers at Jeffries Towers who loved and cared for her; and a host of family and friends.
