Obituary of Deacon Linson Tolbert, Sr.

Deacon Linson Tolbert, Sr., was born March 14, 1927, in Ashburn, GA to the late Eula Chapman and Jimmie Tolbert. He departed this life and went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 4, 2010, in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Deacon Tolbert was educated in the Ashburn, Georgia, school system. He moved to Atlantic City in 1963, along with his wife, Deaconess Bernice Tolbert, and eight of their twelve children. Deacon served in the United States Air Force for a period of time, being honorably discharged to care for his ailing father. He later owned and operated a gas station and body shop. After selling his business, Deacon Tolbert worked for the Atlantic City Expressway, as a mechanic, retiring after more than twenty years of service. Deacon Tolbert joined New York Avenue Church of God, under the pastorate of Reverend Allen. He was a faithfull member for over forty years, later serving under his sister-in-law, Pastor LeeNora Tolbert. He visited the sick in nursing homes every fourth Sunday, and loved his church and God. Deacon Tolbert loved to give and never said no. He always smiled and loved the company of his grandchildren and great-grands. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice Tolbert; son, Freddie Lee Tolbert, and sister, Eula Tolbert Brannum. Deacon Tolbert leaves to cherish his wonderful memory: Children, Evangelist Louise Tolbert Smith of Atlantic City, Eula Leonard (James)of Alabama, Ernestine Faulkner (Alfonzo)of Atlanta, GA, Mary Tolbert of Atlantic City, Yenita Tolbert of Atlantic City, Jimmie Tolbert (Pat)of Atlantic City, Thomas Tolbert (Yvonne)of Atlanta, GA, Linson Tolbert Jr.of Atlantic City, Ben Tolbert of Atlantic City, and Michael Tolbert; brothers, Lonnie Tolbert (Pastor LeeNora) and Ernest Tolbert (Cynthia); sisters-in-law, Connell Jones and LIllie Mae Brown; brother-in-law, Bobby Mulkey (Naomi), and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
