A SERVICE OF TRIUMPH FOR SARAH F. HARVEY SARAH FRANCES HARVEY heeded to the voice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ calling her home on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Moss Rehabilitation Center in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. Sarah was a lifelong resident of Atlantic City, New Jersey and was born on June 4, 1926 to the late John Oliver Sr. and the late Susie Oliver in Ocean City, New Jersey. Sarah attended the public schools of Ocean City, graduating from Ocean City High School with the class of 1945. Sarah was active in a variety of activities during her high school years. She played on the girl's basketball team and swimming teams while also being enrolled in the school's nursing program. Her dream was to become a registered nurse. Sarah was fondly known as "Cookie", "Mom Harvey", and "Nancy". Sarah enjoyed her dinner dates with her Casino Pit Clerk Group that includes Cynthia Johnson and Chocko Reeves. Sarah also enjoyed following current events on television where she would watch her favorite men deliver the up to the minute news reports watching the likes of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams , CNN, featuring John King, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Roland Martin, but her personal favorites were Jim Gardner and Rick Williams on 6 ABC Action News. Sarah loved to read, cook and travel. She read novels, Ebony, Essence and her personal favorite was Reader's Digest where she has been a subscriber since 1962. Sarah also enjoyed staying in touch and was a true and devoted friend where she maintained close relationships with all of her childhood friends which included Sarah Banks and Mary Carter who preceded her in death and Gerri Burrell. Sarah loved listening to music. She loved listening to the blues and jazz while also transcending the times by listening to contemporary R & B and Gospel. Sarah loved to travel, often times going on cruises traveling to Nova Scotia and taking bus trips throughout the southern states or catching a Broadway play in the New York area or Philadelphia. Sarah was no stranger to the workforce. Her many talents included working in retail at Garwood Mills Department Store, her brother John Oliver's toy store and gift shop, Madison Avenue School and Resorts International Hotel and Casino where she retired in 1991. Sarah also volunteered her time and energy to the community in Atlantic City, where she served as a foster grandparent over at the Martin Luther King School Complex and as a Den Mother with the Boys Scouts of America Troop 660. Sarah was a devoted church member attending Faith Baptist Church in Pleasantville, New Jersey and later attended New York Avenue Church of God in Atlantic City. Sarah's civic affiliations were with the Atlantic City Police Department's Public Safety Ambassador's Organization and the Golden Circle Club for senior citizens. Sarah is preceded in death by her husband Aaron E. Harvey Sr., brothers Reginald Oliver Sr. of North Falmouth, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and John Oliver Jr. of Absecon, New Jersey, sister Thelma Hughes of Ocean City, New Jersey and grandsons Kahlif Harvey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Saleem "Pooh" Tolbert of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sarah is survived by a sister Margaret Wilson of Ocean City New Jersey, six sons, Aaron E. Harvey Jr. of Atlantic City, New Jersey, John G. Harvey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey L. Harvey of Weymouth, New Jersey, Brent J. Harvey of Newark, Delaware, Mark T. Harvey of Magnolia, Delaware and Michael T. Harvey of Atlantic City New Jersey; five daughters, Sandra M. Harvey of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Deborah L. Anderson of Galloway New Jersey, Brenda J. Harvey of Collings Lake, New Jersey, Renee M. Miles of Atlantic City New Jersey, Monique S. Harvey of Atlantic City, New Jersey and a host of Grand and Great Grandchildren, other family members and friends.
