Obituary of Rene Helen Matthews-Addison
Died a tragic, sudden, and untimely death, at the age of 47, while facing and battling to survive a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Rene wanted to live, and believed faithfully that Jesus Christ was going to send a miracle and heal her. Rene never lost her faith in Jesus Christ, despite her affliction.
Rene was born on March 16, 1963, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Bernetha and the late Robert Matthews, Sr. She departed her earthly life on Friday, December 3, 2010.
Rene was educated in the Atlantic City public school system and graduated from Atlantic City High School. She attended Atlantic City Community College and received an Associate Degree in Social Work. She attended Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey, where she received her Bachelor Degree.
Rene counseled the mentally challenged at AtlantiCare Behavioral Health Center as a Social Worker for many years. She was very successful and known city wide for her excellent work in restoring patients back to mental health.
Rene received Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a member of Saint Augustine's Episcopal Church in Atlantic City, where she was Christened and confirmed. She was very active in her church. She attended Sunday school and was a member of the youth choir.
Her father, Deacon Robert Matthews introduced her to Community Baptist Church of Atlantic City where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized by water and fire of the Holy Spirit and love as a result of the care of Mrs. JoAnna Lasane's.
Rene wrote, directed, and participated in Christian plays for children. She was a Sunday school teacher, a licensed Evangelist, and a devoted member of Grace Assembly Church, intercessary prayer.
Rene loved and lived to worship and praise the Lord and was a devout disciple and evangelist for her Lord God Jesus Christ, even in the affliction of terminal cancer.
Rene met and married fellow Social Worker Keith Addison on April 17, 2004. They were devoted to each other and soul mates, sharing a kindred spirit. Rene was full of love and life, her smile and kindness would light up a room. Rene loved to spread God's word, loved to cook, and spend time with her family and friends. Rene was truly a kind, sweet and loving person.
Rene leaves to cherish her loving memory: husband, Keith Addison; mother, Bernetha Mathews; brother, Robert (Yvonne) Matthews, Jr.; Godmother, E. Adena Rudder; aunts, Doris Weekes, Betty Pruitt, Phyllis Cook, Jenester Patterson, Lucille Patterson and Pat Patterson; uncles, Donald Patterson, Glover Patterson and Earl Patterson;nephews, Richard Greene and Andrew Green; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
We are assured that Rene is home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Rene prayed to God to be healed, but God wanted her in Heaven with Him instead.
Loving Husband, Keith.
