Obituary of Jacob Smith, Sr.
Smith Sr., Jacob "Smitty" 86, of the McKee City section of Egg Harbor Township, passed away Thursday October 8, 2010, in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – City Campus. Jacob was born in Norfolk, VA, April 25, 1924, to the late Henry and Geneva Smith. He enlisted in The United States Army at the age of 16 and was a World War II & Korean War Veteran in which he retired after 24 years of service. He also retired from N.A.F.E.C., Pomona, New Jersey, as a police officer and The State of New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Atlantic City, New Jersey as an Identification Officer, in the Casino Identification Unit. Jacob was a former member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and the Faith Baptist Church, of Pleasantville, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by: his devoted sons, Jacob, Jr. (Maria), of Egg Harbor Township; Alex Wilson, of Mays Landing; daughters: Jacqueline Smith and Gwendolyn (Cedric) Jeffries, of Egg Harbor Township, Regina (Henry) Chambers, of Brooklyn, New York; sister, Mary, of Philadelphia, PA.; brother, Joseph, of Boston, MA; brothers-in-law; Rev. Charles (Ruby) Dawson & Ewell Dawson, of Brooklyn, New York, Herman Dawson, of Fayetteville, NC and Willie Lee (Evelyn) Dawson, of St. Petersburg, Fl.; grandchildren, Rosalyn, Duncan Earl, Gwenetta, Alex IV, Tammy, Erwin, April, Raymond, Quincy, Candice, Alexa, Cedric, Taylor, Joshua, Rebekah, Rachel, Lydia, Ephriam, Ruben & Jonathan; great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.To plant a tree in memory of Jacob Smith, Sr., please visit Tribute Store
