Obituary of Kevin B. Wilkins
Officer Kevin B. Wilkins ended his hourney in this life, in the line of duty, on February 18, 2010. Born March 19, 1978, he was a proud product of the Atlantic City public school system. In his early youth, Kevin was an active member of the Atlantic city Boys and Girls Club and the Atlantic City PAL. He was a stellar student athlete while attending Atlantic City High School. In his senior year, he led his school's basketball team to its first Cape Atlantic League championship in 1996, and was named to the All-Press Area Players first team. In 1996, Kevin attended Tallahassee Community College in Florida, where he was an integral part of the college's 1997 state championship basketball team. After receiving an Associate's Degree in Communications, he continued his education at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. In his first year as a member of the University's basketball team, Kevin was included in the schools NCAA Tournament's "Sweet Sixteen" bid. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice two years later. Kevin relocated to Englewood, New Jersey, to establish an automotive dealership, however, his deep love of his mother and fiancee brought him back to the region. His passion for positive influence for youth led to a substitute teaching position in the very system that groomed him. He then moved to "at risk" youth and accepted a position with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission at the Manor Woods Youth Detention Center. To protect and serve his community was Kevin's goal. In 2007, he enrolled in the Cape May Police Academy as a candidate for the Atlantic City Police Department. On January 30, 2008, Kevin B. Wilkins graduated to join the rank and file of the honored "Men in Blue". As a police officer, he garnered the respect and admiration of the citizens in which he chose to serve. Ini his spare time, Kevin was an avid video game player. He mastered XBOX 360 and was affectionately known in the XBOX online community as "ACBIGMAN". Kevin was predeceased by: his mother, Anna Marie Wilkins; grandfathers, Sylveseter Wilkins, Sr. and Robert J. Robinson; and uncle, Donald Wilkins. He is survived by: his loving fiancee, Nichole Gupton and his beloved step=children, Nastajia, Jason and Tori; father, Kevin Robinson of Egg Harbor Township; maternal grandmother, Kathleen Wilkins of Atlantic City; paternal grandmother, Alta Robinson of Egg Harbor Township; sister, Sylvetta Branch-Smith; brothers, Stanley Smith of Atlantic city and Kenny Kelley of Galloway Township; nieces, Kenyani Branch-Young and Yasmeen Kelley; uncles, Sylvester Wilkins of Somers Point, Elijah Wilkins of Atlantic City, james Robinson of Pleasantville, William Robinson of Egg Harbor Township, and special uncle, Anthony Robinson of Brooklyn, New York; aunts, Brenda Higgs and Kathleen Wilkins of Atlantic City, Roberta Lea (Edward) of Egg Harbor Township, Patricia Montague of Springfield, Massachusetts, Joyce Robinson and Lynette Robinson of Absecon; his mentor, Gene Allen of Atlantic City; best friend, Desmond Herod; and a host of cousins, coaches, teammates and friends. Kevin's spirit, sense of humor, love of life, good nature and love of good music will be deeply missed.
