Obituary of Wilbert Kennedy

Wilburt Kennedy, "Bubba", was born on September 27, 1928, in New Zion, South Carolina, to the union of the late Wesley Kennedy and Rena Burgess Kennedy. On February 8, 2010, our dear brother, uncle and friend was called by God to receive his crown. At an early age, Wilburt was baptized and joined the Howard Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in New Zion, South Carolina. He attended public school in Sumter, South Carolina. Wilburt joined the United States Navy in 1944, at the age of sixteen. He served during World War II. Soon after being honorably discharged from the Navy, Wilburt had the privilege of finding a career in boating, which took himm back to the days of the Navy and allowwed him to spend most of his life on a ship. Wilburt enjoyed shooting pool, traveling, making floral displays and collecting antiques. He was a member of hte Disabled Veterans' Association and the Veterans' of Foreign Wars Wilburt was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Kennedy; mother, Rena Burgess Kennedy; and brother, Stedna Kennedy. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish fond memories: two brothers, John Lee Kennedy(Pearl) of Baltimore, Maryland and former Mayor, Master Sergeant Eugene F. Kennedy(retired) (Barbara) of Seat Pleasant, Maryland; two sisters, Juanita Penland of Los Angeles, California and Elouise Shephard fo Brooklyn, New York; two very specail friends who were like family to him, Lorraine and Elizabeth Dzurinko of Atlantic City, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
