Obituary of Viola Marshall

Please share a memory of Viola to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Viola Marshall, 90, of Absecon, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Viola was born in Atlantic City, NJ, on September 21, 1932, to Margaret and Ralph Roland Marshall. Viola attended the Atlantic City Public Schools and graduated from Atlantic City High School with the Class of 1950. After high school, she was employed as a sale clerk in Atlantic City's famed Lit Brothers' Department Store and later worked in Bradlees' Department Store as a security guard. After ending her career in retail stores, Viola joined the Atlantic City Police Department in the Identification Department where she worked her way to become a Supervisor for the Criminal Investigation Records Unit. She retired from the Police Department on April 1, 1994. However, this retirement did not last long. Viola quickly became bored at home. She knew that she had more work to do. So, she went back into the work force. This time as a teacher's assistant for the Pleasantville Board of Education. Viola or "Sis," as she was called by her family and close friends, never married. She always took care of her parents and was always on call whenever a family member or friend needed her. Though always helping others in need – she made certain that she enjoyed life. Viola went on plenty of trips with her friends; she took exercise classes; joined organizations like the Golden Circle of South Jersey; and enjoyed the night life and the many entertainment options that Atlantic City and surrounding vicinities offered. Viola was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church. She was predeceased by: her parents, Margaret and Roland Marshall; brothers, Roland "Bill" and William "Mack" Marshall; and nephew, Tyrone Marshall, on whom she depended later in life. She leaves to cherish her memory: three nieces: Gail M. Epps, Valerie Francis and Toni Rodgers; two nephews: Gary (Ernestine) and Craig (Leah) Marshall; eight great-nieces and nephews, a host of great-great nieces and nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM, Thursday, February 23, 2023, Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 10 North Mississippi Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Harding Highway, Mays Landing, New Jersey. Arrangements entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Atlantic City, where condolences may be left at www.greenidgefuneralhomes.com.
