Obituary of Wayne Harlen Rush

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wayne Harlan Rush, 61, of Atlantic City, New Jersey was born to Nancy (Miller) and Ernest O. Rush on New Year's Day 1961, died December 17, 2022, in the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City. "Beasley" or "Beez" as Wayne was affectionately called, attended the Atlantic City Public Schools and graduated from Atlantic City High School. Wayne was an innovative person whose favorite passion was cooking. So it was only natural for him to work as a cook at the Back Bay Ale House in Atlantic City's Gardner's Basin. Not only did he enjoy cooking at work, Beez would feed his family, friends and community while entertaining them with his outsized personality. He always shared all that he had without a second thought. Wayne was a family man who loved his siblings, Pearlene, George, Melynda and Reva; his sons, DWayne, Michael, Chauncey and Cameron; and his grandchildren. Wayne looked out for the women in his family and was their greatest protector – especially his nieces. Beasley and his beloved "Baby", his wife, Wanda Hunter, hosted many family gatherings insuring that their family would get together more than once a year. Every year they would deliver Christmas gifts so that no one was left without. He will be missed by his co-workers and patrons at the Back Bay Ale House. Of course, his family will miss him greatly as will his neighbors and friends who he always checked to make sure everyone was okay. Music must have been in his DNA. He played music all the time for all to enjoy. He enjoyed watching nature either at the Absecon Inlet Seawall, McClinton Park or in Gardener's Basin. Sitting in these places gave him a sense of peace. Wayne is predeceased by: his parents, Nancy and Ernest Rush. He is survived by: his wife, Wanda Hunter; children, Dwayne Jordan (Amanda), Michael Jordan, Chauncey Hunter and Cameron Hunter; siblings, Pearlene Taliaferro (Derric) of Pleasantville, New Jersey, Melynda "Precious" Sanders (Shane) of Indiana, Pastor George E. Rush, Sr. (Theresa) of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Cornell Dantzler, Reva "Mittens", Lynn and Kathy Rush, all of Atlantic City, New Jersey; brother-in-law, Richard Murphy, Sr. (Brenda); favorite nieces, Carlene Rush, Fantay Rush, Fatima Rush, Faesha Rush and Ron'Nay Brown; favorite nephew, Jason Rush; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; special friends, Gary Murphy, Trevor Smith and Rahim Owens; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services to celebrate Wayne's life will be 11AM, Friday, December 23, 2022, New Hope Baptist Church, 706 Lexington Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey where friends may view from 10AM to 11AM. Interment to follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Mays Landing, New Jersey.
