Obituary of Joy Bernadette Hall

Please share a memory of Joy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joy Bernadette Hall, 59, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 06, 2022, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. "Cookie" as she was affectionately known, remained strong and fought to the very end. She did not lose the battle, she won the war and has earned her wings. Joy was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsyvania, to Elva Lois (Moragne) and Richard Hall. It was stated that her mother named her Joy because she was happy to have a baby girl, after having a couple of boys. Although Joy was raised in Philadephia, Joy graduated from Atlantic City High School, where she took classes at the Vocational Technical School. Joy worked for various company prior to her retirement. She was employed by: TJ Maxx, Bacharach Institute and Bradlees to name a few. She also worked in enviromental services at Resorts International Hotel and Casino, which seemed to be her favorite job. Cookie was a very compassionate and sweet spirited person, who cared deeply for her family and friends. Those that really knew Cookie, knew that she was fly and loved to dress. Some of her favorite hobbies were shopping, eating, listening to music, and watching BET. She could shop for hours and if there was an award show coming on, she was sure to watch it. Joy loved spending time with her loved ones (especially her children and grandchildren), and her dog, Sophie, who she affectionately called "Noph Noph" and boy, did she love Sophie. Most people may have known her personality to be quiet and laid back, yet at home she was funny, caring, loving, and down for whatever. She had a heart of pure gold and was always willing to give and help others. Joy was predeceased by: her parents, Richard and Elva Hall; brothers, Richard Hall Jr, Malcom "Bootsie" Carter, and Michael Hall (Gloria); niece, Aaliyah Smiley. She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories and continue her legacy: her three children, Hassan Muhammad of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Safiyyah Johnson of Mays Landing, New Jersey, and Nicole Pettus of Pleasantville, New Jersey; her wonderful grandchildren, Darren Johnson III, Arriana Johnson, Idris Muhammad, and Allure Butler; brothers, Leroy Hall, Antonio "Ali" Hall (Jackie), and Halston Hall; sisters, Barbara Young, Valerie Price, and Richelle "Shelly" Hall; her dog, Sophie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cookie will be forever loved and missed dearly. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be Noon, Friday, December 16, 2022, Lighthouse Community Church, 923 Washinton Avenue, Pleasantville, New Jersey, where family and friends may view from 11am until 12PM. Interment to follow in Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, New Jersey.
