Chief Petty Officer (Ret.) Nelson William Nance was born August 22, 1948, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the adopted son of Dorothy & Nelson R. Nance. He entered eternal rest on October 1, 2022.

Nelson attended the Knoxville Public Schools and was a member of the first high school class to integrate the Knoxville Public Schools. He graduated from Hampton University with a bachelor's degree in Finance and then matriculated to Old Dominion University where he graduated with a master's degree in Finance. Following in his father's footsteps, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Iota Alpha Chapter in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Nelson was a twenty-two year United States Navy veteran and served as an Aviation Ordinance Man and as a P-3 Air Crewman.

After his retirement from the Navy, he worked as a case manager for Covenant House, Atlantic City. He also volunteered as a financial investment counselor for the AtlantiCare Family Centers' Wise Guys mentoring program.

Nelson married Rosalind Norrell-Nance twice and their love story is one friends, and family say helped define what a loving marriage should be. He was an extraordinary host for the many gatherings they held for family, friends, and their organizational affiliations.

He was passionate about helping youth and young adults. He described his dogs as his "other children". He loved talking about investments, politics, civil rights, his children, grandkids and how much he loved and admired his wife and her professional accomplishments. Nelson was the ultimate host and actually built Roz a house designed to entertain their family and friends. He loved every genre of music and sang constantly.

His parents, Nelson and Dorothy; a favorite aunt, Cora Coleman; an uncle, A.B Coleman; and his biological mother, Dorothy Parton; sister, Sherly Jackson; brothers, Robert Parton and James Bud; Navy friends, John Whiley, IV, Raymond Sye, Jr. and Michael Clyde preceded him in death.

He is survived by: his wife, Rosalind Norrell-Nance; children, Alicia Dalton (Hon. Kenneth Dalton), Kimberly Hudson (Mark Hudson), Antonio Nance, Nelson Nance, Jr. (Amber), Noel Nance and Patrick Nance; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sisters, Leslie Kirkham, Linda Hargis, Clara Whitfield and Anita Carr; godchildren, Philip Wiley IV, Marc Lambert, Lori Goodman, and Erica Freeman; loyal Navy buddies, Howard Daniels and Ricky Anderson; dear friends, Sybil Ward, Ali Reynolds, Joyce & Michael Hammond-Benoff, Carol Reynolds, Adrienne Hamilton, Wade Lawson and Yvonne Bonitto Doggett; Kimmi's friends who he and Roz consider to be like their very own, Mark Rios, Andrew Keys, Ron Glover, Bobby Martin, Monique Sears, Mario McIvy, Cherese Myree, Hollie Wilkes, Phillip Miles; and his beloved German Shepard, Wonka.
