Obituary of Ethlyn Hycinth Craig

Please share a memory of Ethlyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Sunday, July 17, 2022, Ethlyn H. Craig went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the age of 97. Born Ethlyn Hycinth Burgess the only child of Sophie and Franklin Burgess on April 28, 1925, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Her parents together with her grandmother, Eva Ethlyn Pollard loved her dearly. Ethlyn attended the Atlantic City public school system and graduated from Atlantic City High School in the Spring of 1943. That summer, Ethlyn moved to Philadelphia to work in the Training Division of the United States Signal Corps. On June 25, 1944, Ethlyn married her childhood sweetheart, a bluejacket sailor named Claude Craig. Ethlyn and Claude later moved to Oakland, California where she was employed at the Oakland Army Base. After World War II, Ethlyn returned to Atlantic City with her husband. In December of 1946, they welcomed a son, Claude Burgess Craig and in November of 1952, another son, Donford Edward Craig. Ethlyn and Claude were married for fifty-eight years. Ethlyn was employed as a Clerk in the State of New Jersey's Unemployment Insurance Office on Bacharach Boulevard, in Atlantic City for 33 years before retiring in 1984. Both Ethlyn and Claude immediately retired upon the much-anticipated news that they would become grandparents by both sons within six months of each other. In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Ethlyn was a stalwart member of New Hope Baptist Church and active in the Missionary and Golden Voices Ministries. Ethlyn served in numerous civic and social organizations including: the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Kolony Klub, Bungalow Park Civic Association, Senior Services Pavilion and the Golden Circle's Hostess and Flower Committees. Ethlyn enjoyed reading, cooking, listening to jazz, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren most of all. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, and consistently giving praises to God for the many blessings she has received throughout her lifetime. Predeceased by: her husband, Claude Craig; daughter-in-law, Shirley L. Craig; and great-granddaughter, Ariah Bohler. Ethlyn leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Claude B. Craig, Sr. (Shawn) and Donford E. Craig; four grandchildren, Tamiko Bohler, Shkeema Torres (Rafael), Claude B. Craig, Jr. (Shiri), and Naiya B. Craig; a great-granddaughter, Easton Craig; two god-son's Mica Dales and Michael Wilson; god-sister, Marionette Todd; and four generations of extended relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 11AM, Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church, 706 Lexington Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey where friends may call from 10AM.
