Obituary of Delores Patterson

Delores Smith Patterson, affectionately known as "The Cake Lady", was born to Minnie Lee and Andrew Jackson, on April 13, 1942, in Newark, New Jersey. She transitioned to her eternal home December 5, 2021. Delores was the product of the Newark Public Schools. She was employed by the Pleasantville Board of Education for many years and served as a manager of the cafeteria until her retirement. She received the Lord as her savior and was baptized in 1952, by Rev. Charles Banks of the Greater Harvest Baptist Church of Newark, New Jersey. She later joined Faith Baptist Church in Pleasantville, New Jersey in the early 1980's under the pastorship of Rev. Milton L. Hendricks. She loved her church and church family. She could be found serving on the Culinary Ministry or singing with the Senior Voices of Faith. The Lord truly gifted Delores with excellent culinary skills. She was mostly taught by her mother but was also self- taught. She loved to find newer and better ways to prepare her signature dishes or decorate her cakes. She loved to bless everyone with her baked goods and many delicious dishes. It was always a treat when she would show up to our homes with trays of fresh baked cookies, apple crisps, cakes and a list of many other favorites too long to name. She also loved to crochet and would often share her handmade creations with others as gifts. One of the other things she loved to do was laugh. She had a way of telling a story that would have everyone cracking up. She loved to throw get-togethers and entertain people with her food. She was a joy to her friends and family. Upon retirement she relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she lived her remaining years. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Minnie Lee and Andrew Jackson; her brother, Walter Jackson; and her son, Wayne Smith. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Tommie Patterson; children, Stephanie Blaze, Sandra Smith, and Virginia Smith; special daughter, Linda Jackson; her siblings, Evelyn Jackson, Andrew Jackson (Delores), and William Jackson. Delores was the loving matriarch of her family and took great delight in spending time with her 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren who she adored. They loved being with her as much as she loved being with them and their term of endearment for her was "Louis". She also had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her memory will remain in our hearts.?? Funeral services will be Noon, Saturday, December 11, 2021, Faith Baptist Church, 829 Tilton Road, Pleasantville, New Jersey where friends may call from 11AM. Interment to follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Mays Landing, New Jersey. Arrangements entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Atlantic City, where condolences may be left at www.greenidgefuneralhomes.com.
