Obituary of Maxine Walker
Maxine Blocker Walker of Pleasantville, New Jersey passed away at the age 75 on October 17, 2021. She was the devoted wife of Edgar Walker and was deeply beloved by her husband, children, family, and friends. She will be greatly missed.
She was born on June 14, 1946, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Nicye (nee' Tripp) and Mayhew Blocker. Maxine was predeceased by: three sisters, all from Atlantic City, Alza (nee' Tripp) Goodman, Doris (nee' Blocker) Woodard, and Belinda (nee' Blocker) Dillihay. She is survived by: two sisters, Yvonne (nee' Blocker) Norris of North Carolina and Lucille Haley of Atlantic City. Lucille Haley was born from Nicye and her second husband William Haley.
Maxine graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1964. She went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Stockton State College (now Stockton University). She worked for the Atlantic City Police Department as a Dispatcher. She later was one of the first employees of the Claridge Hotel & Casino Resort where she worked for many years until she retired.
In addition to her sisters, she is survived by: her devoted and loving husband, Edgar Walker; children Michele (nee' Blocker) Bonds and her husband, Otis, Charles Blocker, Timothy Blocker and his wife, Renee, Lakesha (nee' Blocker) Green and her husband, Ericke, and Edward Holland and his wife, Angelina. Her life was further enriched with 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a wonderful mother-in-law, Elaine Walker, extended family, and the former Richman Avenue community the Brathwaites and Brocks who are like family.
Maxine was a loving, kind and graceful woman who had a hobby of collecting angels. There are many would say she was an angel among us. Affectionately known as "Mac" to her family and friends, she was deeply adored by all. The relationships she had with family and friends were of utmost importance to her. She was loving, kind, and sweet to everyone she met, often becoming someone's personal favorite.
She was an amazing mother. She was a guide to her children's learning about integrity, grace under pressure, and being resilient. Maxine was a pillar of strength and a great source of encouragement. Even with all of these wonderful characteristics, she was also very humble. Each person she touched is better for knowing her.
To my wife…when I met you, you changed my world. You gave me a family and the love to go with it. You were my strength and my reason for being. ~Edgar
