Obituary of Sandra Elizabeth Walker Sawyer
Sandra Elizabeth Walker Sawyer, of Atlantic City, NJ departed this earthly life and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at home. Sandra was born December 8, 1943, in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Thelma and Clarence P. Walker, Sr.
Sandra was educated through the Atlantic City Public School system. She was a member of the Elks Organization where she served as the Daughter Ruler in the mid 70’s. Sandra was passionate about showing support and compassion to any individual in her presence. She went back to school to become a certified nursing assistant which led to a career of providing care to individuals at local nursing homes; where she received many accolades until her retirement in 2013. Sandra enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was known for bringing her loved ones together every Sunday and holidays for family dinner. Everyone looked forward to her cooking especially her famous fried chicken and mouthwatering beef ribs. Sandra was a faithful member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church where she served as the recording secretary for the St. Martha’s Guild, Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and member of the Altar Guild.
In 1961, Sandra married the late Samuel Sawyer, with whom she had her four loving children, her greatest accomplishments.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her goddaughter, Leah Nicole Davis; her sister-friend, Sharon Kae Davis, and other beloved family members.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy her loyal children: Kevin D. Sawyer (Andrea) of Atlantic City, NJ; Shawn F. Phillips (Ronald) of Mays Landing, NJ; Karen D. Sawyer of Atlantic City, NJ and Keith B. Sawyer of Willimantic, CT. Three loving and caring siblings: Clarence “Bubby” P. Walker, Jr of Mays Landing, NJ; Christine J. Payne of Atlantic City, NJ, and Lynn A. McPhatter (Ramius) of Ft. Washington, MD. Nine wonderful grandchildren; six beautiful great-grandchildren; special friend, Delores “Dolly” Whiting; and a host of other nieces, nephews, in-laws, family, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, August 28, 2021, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 1709 Arctic Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from10 AM. Interment to follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ.
