Obituary of Martha Louisa Drummond

Martha Louisa Drummond, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and aunt was born on July 13, 1931, in Woodbury, New Jersey, to Edward Taylor and Isabelle Frazier. Martha was one of five children, (all girls!) and was blessed with three children of her own; La Verne, Michael and Allen. On Monday, August 16, 2021, our Heavenly Father stopped by Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where He decided Martha had completed her earthly journey. Jesus gently reached down, cradled Martha in His arms and she entered eternal rest. Martha lived in New Jersey her entire life and was educated in the New Jersey's Public Schools. She was the President of her class, the class of 1953. She attended Camden County Vocational School where she earned her associate degree in Practical Nursing. She was licensed in June of 1954. Martha furthered her education by attending Rutgers University where she studied Hospital Management. She graduated from Rutgers on May 24, 1971. Martha served as a member on the Disciplinary Hearing Committee for the South Jersey Regional Office of Rutgers University. She also served in the Interpersonal Relation Program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). On February 21, 1982, she received recognition for twenty-five years of service with CHOP. Martha retired from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on July 30, 1993, with over thirty years of service. Martha joined First Refuge Progressive Baptist Church located in Camden, New Jersey, in 1996 and was an active member until illness prevented her attendance. She served on the Trustee Board and was a member of the Gospel Choir. She was preceded in death by: her sons, Michael and Allen; mother, Isabelle Stark; father, Edward Taylor; sisters, Ruth Drummond, Margaret Rice Cephas and Georgiana Holmes. Martha leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, LaVerne Nelson (Joseph); sister, Crystal Wyatt (Walter); grandchildren, N' Namdee and Jarid Nelson, Merritt and Chandler Johnson, Darnell Doughty, Rashon Whye, Dana and Tasha Drummond; great-grandchildren, Jayla, Johnny, Jada, Davontae, Jarid Jr. and Nazir; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Martha was a very loving and caring individual who always thought about others. Her favorite things were shopping, dining out, being a fashion diva, wearing colorful clothing and shoes matching from head to toe. Her favorite color was all shades of brown. When traveling, Martha was definitely a lady that you never had to second guess. Funeral services will be 11AM Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at First Refuge Progressive Baptist Church, 1479 Kaighn Avenue, Camden, New Jersey, where friends will be received from 9AM to 11AM. Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Pennsauken, New Jersey. Arrangements are entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Inc., where condolences maybe left at www.greenidgefuneralhomes.com
