Obituary of Otha Douglas Campbell

Mr. Otha Douglas Campbell was born In Humes, Virginia to Herbert and Lucy Campbell on October 16, 1924. He attended the Fauqire County Public School System.

At an early age he enlisted into the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Egg Harbor City, N.J. where he met and married the love of his life, Eva Lee and through this union were born eleven children.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church and Holy Trinity Assembly of the Living God on Route 50 in Laureldale, N.J. While living in Egg Harbor, he held various jobs but was most known for playing pool cooking, fishing and hunting. Otha was most proud of and famous for his Barbeque ribs and the special sauce which his children and grandchildren, alike, cut their teeth on those rib bones. He loved to visit his family in Virginia and Maryland so that he could play cards all night long!

Otha was employed for nearly twenty years at The South Jersey Transportation Authority as a toll collector and was well liked up and down the entire stretch of road by both employees and travelers. Otha also owned and operated a limousine for many years.

Preceeded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lucy; twelve siblings; wife, Eva; daughter, Marilyn; and son, Herbert.

Leaving to mourn: children, Cynthia Asbury, Eartha Mitchell (Bubba), Lonnie, Carlton, Gilroy, Venessa, Warren Tracey and Keith; sister-in-law, Ruby Campbell; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and other family and friends.

Friends may call Saturday, January 30, 2021, from 9AM-10AM, at Faith Baptist Church, 829 Tilton Road, Pleasantville, NJ. Due to COVID restrictions, the funeral service will be by invitation only.
