Obituary of Arthur Lee Tolbert
ARTHUR LEE TOLBERT, age 67, of Atlantic City New Jersey, was born on June 8, 1952, to Lonzie Sr. and Reverend Lee Nora Tolbert. Arthur made his heavenly transition on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, due to COVID-19 complications, at Shore Memorial Hospital. Arthur was educated in the Atlantic City Public School District and graduated from Atlantic City High School, Class of 1970. While attending high school, Arthur found his passion in cross country, track and field, in which he was inspired by his older brother, Junior. Arthur received numerous awards including lettering in both sports (cross country and track and field) based on his performances of excellence. After graduation, he received a full scholarship to attend Mount Saint Mary College. Arthur was affectionally known as "Trotter," the nickname given by his brother, Timothy, due to good sportsmanship and because he would pace himself against other runners through various competitions. Arthur was a very competitive athlete who always strived to give his very best. After college, he would continue to run every morning to stay in shape. He inspired his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews to follow in the footsteps that he and his older brother, Junior started. This became a family tradition. Arthur also enjoyed playing basketball, chess, baseball, music and drums, solving crossword puzzles and spending quality time with his family, especially during holidays, birthday celebrations and summer cookouts. In his early years, he was a member of the New York Avenue Church of God. He was a faithful usher and member of the church basketball team. He loved to sing on the choir. Arthur was a young man of good faith and he had such compassion towards others. In his spare time, he was the family financial consultant, advisor, and coin collector. Arthur was employed by various casinos, including Bally's, Playboy, and Caesars as a blackjack and craps dealer in the early 80's and 90's. After retiring from the casino industry, he was employed by the Atlantic City Housing Authority as a security guard supervisor for a few years. Unfortunately, due to health conditions, Arthur had to resign. He then became a resident at the Meadowview Rehabilitation Center. (His main goal was to get better and return to his home). Arthur was predeceased by: his maternal grandmother, Nora Moody; brother, Lonzie Tolbert Jr., and nephew, Saleem Tolbert. He leaves to cherish his memories: parents, Lonzie and Reverend Lee Nora Tolbert; siblings: Steven Tolbert(Lourdes), Timothy Tolbert, Anthony Tolbert, Joy Sheree Tolbert, Sheila Tolbert Harvey(Michael), Kenneth Tolbert, Shelby Tolbert White (Chris), and Lonzie Tolbert III; a host of nieces nephews and relatives; and his special childhood friends: Donny Craig, Kevin Miles, William Nelson, Darnell Corbitt, and his Bungalow Park Family.
