Obituary of Wayne Rodney Jones

Wayne Rodney Jones, affectionately known as "Scoop", was born February 21, 1945, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Flora (McWhite) and Clyde Jones, Sr. He attended elementary and junior high school in Fort Lauderdale and graduated from Atlantic City High School. Wayne accepted Christ at an early age and more recently reclaimed his faith. He was a faithful employee of Tropicana Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he worked as a security guard for thirty-eight years. Besides working, which was his life, Wayne "Scoop" was an avid sports fan. He was an extraordinary sprinter and football player in Atlantic City's informal sports network and neighborhood games. At 15 years of age, while in junior high school, he was clocked at 9.9 seconds flat in the hundred-yard dash. He often raced against Atlantic City High's greatest sprinters. He enjoyed just about every sport there was and boxed in Atlantic City's youth league and was a fearless boxer and judo specialist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Flora and Clyde Jones, Sr.; brothers, Clyde, Jr., Tyrone and Cornel Jones. Wayne leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Minister Roy L. Jones and wife, Lena; Roy's son, Minister James Jones and wife, Melody; their children, Jonathan, Lauren and Caleb; nieces, Sunshine, Jada and Kirb; Wayne's companion of 17 years, Wilma Brown; Wilma's daughters, Quwana and Evelyn; adopted sons, Jameel, and Robert; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, coworkers and friends.
