Obituary of Minnie Mae Bullard

Minnie Mae Bullard was born June 18, 1926, in Rocky Point, North Carolina, to Mary (Holmes) and Jewel Malloy, Sr. She went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 13, 2020, surrounded by her family. As a youth, Minnie attended Pender County Training School in North Carolina. Being the oldest girl in her family, Minnie, at the age of eleven took care of the house and her younger cousins. At the age of fourteen, Minnie began working in the local area as a sleep-in housekeeper. She worked as a housekeeper for many years for several private families throughout her life. Minnie met and married Melvin Riggins in the early 1940's, and to this union was born a daughter Mary, who was named after her grandmother. Minnie moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1956. She lived with her grandfather, Deacon Charles Holmes, and began attending Sunday services with him at Shiloh Baptist Church on Ohio and Arctic Avenues in Atlantic City. In 1962, she became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was baptized during Pastor Thomas Mills leadership. Minnie was very active in several ministries at Shiloh Baptist Church. She was president of the Hostess Ministry, where she spent many hours preparing and serving food to help raise money for the church, president of the Missionary Society and member of the Month of June Ministry. She also served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and Treasurer of the Maude S. Walker Missionary Union of Atlantic City. Minnie met and married Allen Bullard, Jr., in 1966. Mr. Bullard was very loving and supportive of Minnie's many ministries and activities in the community. He would often help Minnie in any way he could with the ministries. Minnie's passion and dedication to work for God has never ceased to this day. Although she had some health issues, she was always willing to give and help the Shiloh Baptist Church whenever the occasion arose. She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Allen Bullard, Jr.; daughter, Mary Riggins; grandson, Barry Riggins; parents, Mary Holmes Dudley and Jewel Malloy, Sr.; brother, Jewel Malloy, Jr.; sisters in law, Wilma and Charlotte Riggins. Minnie leaves to cherish her memory: her grandson, Lamont Riggins; great grandson, Barry Smith; guardian, Lisa M. Draper; aunts, Dollie Kenan and Ellen Brown; nephew, James Mariner, Sr. (Betty); nieces, Theresa and Hazel Malloy; god daughter, Rosa Mitchell-Kelly, and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, January 25, 2019, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 701 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 9AM.
