Obituary of Lena Odessa Swain

Lena Odessa Swain was born on August 23, 1940, in Windsor, North Carolina, and passed away, peacefully, in her home on December 25, 2019. Born to the late William Henry and Annie Pugh Swain, Lena grew up and attended school in Bertie County, North Carolina. She was one of thirteen children. Two sisters, Martha Watson of Pleasantville, New Jersey and Clara Swain of Windsor, North Carolina. She was predeceased by four brothers; George, Levi, Robert, and Joe Willie, and six sisters; Lettie Lee, Mabel Cora, Annie Bell, Addie, Isabelle, and Mary. For many years, she was employed at the Midtown Hotel. If you knew Lena, you knew she loved life and celebrating the good times. She enjoyed cooking, talking on the phone with family, listening to music and dancing. Putting God first, she was an active member in her church, Price Memorial AME Zion Church, where she attended, faithfully. She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Juanita, David (Marilyn), and Annie Swain; a special niece, Bobby Ann Boykin; twelve grandchildren, Davina, Juanisha, Vernon (Ronesha), Simmie, Steven, Tanisha, David, Shamirah, Khalil, Leon, Tyrese, and Shelena; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be 11AM, Thursday, January 2, 2020, All Wars Memorial Building, 1510 Adriatic Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Lincoln Memorial Park, Mays Landing. Arrangements entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Inc., Atlantic City, where condolences may be left at www.greenidgefuneralhomes.com.
