Obituary of Rudolph Wesley Harris

Rudolph Wesley Harris was born September 5, 1939, in Maybeury, West Virginia, to Georgia Harris. Rudolph went home to be with Lord on Monday, August 26, 2019, at his residence surrounded by family.

"Rudy" as he was affectionately known was educated in the Maybeury Public School District and graduated from William C. Jason High School in Georgetown, Delaware. After high school, Rudolph enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as cook. He later studied business management at Delaware Technical College in Georgetown, Delaware and graduated from Glassboro State College where he earned his bachelor's degree.

Rudolph worked many years as a truck driver. He was also a truck driving instructor. After retiring from the trucking industry, Rudy worked as a substitute teacher for multiple schools in the Atlantic and Cumberland County's schools.

Rudolph's favorite past times were fishing, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He also looked forward to spending time with the family on their annual trips to Orlando, Florida. Rudy was a devoted member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, where he served as a trustee, member of the men's choir, usher board, transportation ministry and helped work with the youth.

Rudolph was predeceased by: his mother, Georgia Harris; sister, Martha Daniels; brother, James Kittrell.

Rudy leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Melrose Harris; two sons, William Hinton of Vineland, New Jersey and Darryl Blackwell of Dover, Delaware; four daughters, Ina Harris, Mia Harris (Frederick Phillips), Tia Alexander (Sean) all of Vineland, New Jersey, Quadiya Davis of Glassboro, New Jersey; one brother, William Kittrell of Seaford, Delaware, one sister, Alfreda Kittrell of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1837 Northeast Boulevard, Vineland, where friends may call from 9AM. Interment will be in the Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery, Hopewell Township.
