Obituary of Devon Roosevelt White
Devon Roosevelt White, Sr., affectionately known as "De" passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, May 3, 2019. He was the sixth child born to Clotee and Matthew White on August 7, 1946, in Marianna, Florida.
At a young age De joined Springfield A.M.E. Church in Springfield, Florida.
In 1966, De moved from Casper, Wyoming to Atlantic City, New Jersey to be with his oldest brother, Elijah "Cash" White. Atlantic City was home to De for fifty-five years.
As a young man, De worked for Smithville Inn and later for Local Union 415, until he retired. De was a member of the Masonic Temple and has served as the Temple's bartender.
De was married to Donna Smith-White, from that union two children were born; Tasha White-Wooten of Marianna, Florida and Devon White, Jr. of Galloway, New Jersey.
De is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
De leaves to cherish his fond memories his: children, Tasha White-Wooten and Devon White, Jr.; four grandchildren, Jahmire, Davonna, Leah and Jordan; four brothers, Cash (Delois) of New Jersey, Matthew (Delores) of Ohio, Harlen (Jernery) of Tennessee and Donnie (LaRonda) of California; three sisters, Blondine Bellamy (William) of Cottondale, Florida, Gloria White (Robert) of Cottondale, Florida and Shirley White of Augusta, Georgia; loving companion, Sandra. De will be missed by 26 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
De's pleasant personality, love and kindness to everyone will truly be missed.
Masonic Rites will be 6:30PM Thursday, May 9, 2019, Greenidge Funeral Homes, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where friends may call from 6PM.
Funeral services will be 5PM Friday, May 10, 2019, Shiloh Temple Apostolic Cathedral, 505 Madison Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where friends may call from 4PM.
