Obituary of Joyce Mae Cross
Joyce Mae Cross “Elder Cross” as she was respectfully known as went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, NJ. Joyce was born June 11, 1957, in Atlantic City, NJ, and was the daughter of Nanniebell Jackson and Jesse Williams.
Joyce was educated in the Atlantic City Public School system and was a 1976 graduate of Atlantic City High School. She later attended Rowan University where she earned her Bachelors of Science. She worked as teacher’s aide for the Pleasantville Board of Education.
Joyce was a member of the Grace Cathedral Church in Atlantic City where she was ordained as Elder. Joyce was an avid worker with ministry and loved serving her community. She also enjoyed praising the Lord by praise dancing and singing for the tribe of Judah. Joyce founded her own outreach street ministry called, “Share your love ministry” where she ministered to souls on the streets of Atlantic City, fed the people at the mission, and prayed for the sick in hospitals.
Joyce was one of the greatest givers and supporter out there and was truly an example of what a true follower of Christ should be. Joyce was a tremendous Mother not only to the two children she had biologically, but to her extended family as well. If anyone remembers Joyce they all know she was on Fire for the Lord and loved her family to no end.
Joyce is predeceased by: siblings, Rencia and Royce Jones, Cheryl Knowles, Gary and Barry Edwards, Robert and Walt James.
Joyce leaves behind to cherish her loving memory: two biological sons, Roderick V. Knowles, Jr. and his wife, Taiwan L. Knowles of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John Edward Knowles and his wife, Shaunee Knowles of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; her extended children, Jermaine and Sherwood Armstead, Kyle, Deandry, and Shervon Cross, Chanel Blocker, and Sherleasha Coleman, David Anthony Preston, Kellee and Kevin Roberts; twenty six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; siblings, James Knowles, Runea Jackson, Victor James, Ronald Edwards, Harold Edwards, Vincent Nelson, Elizabeth Edwards, and Kathleen Jules.
Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018, Lighthouse Community Church, 1311 S. Main Street, Pleasantville, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Seaside Cemetery, Marmora.
