Obituary of Joseph Franklin, Jr.
Joseph Nathaniel Franklin, Jr., "Joe," "Buddy," "Bud," 82 of Trenton, New Jersey passed away at home on Friday, March 16, 2018, with his wife and daughters by his side.
He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and became a resident of Trenton in 1965. Joseph was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1958-1960. While stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, he taught in El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces and Juarez, Mexico. Afterwards, he taught at the State Home for Boys in Jamesburg, New Jersey and Pennington Central in Pennington, New Jersey.
Later, Joe was employed by the South Brunswick Board of Education at South Brunswick High School as an Industrial Arts Teacher for thirty-three years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cheyney State College and a Masters Degree from Trenton State College. While at South Brunswick, he taught metal shop, wood shop, ceramics, leather craft, drafting, minor plumbing, auto shop, welding and mechanical drawing.
Joe was President of J. Franklin Home Improvement and DJK Painting. He was always seen building or painting. Joseph had the opportunity to work with his two daughters and granddaughter on home improvement projects.
"Buddy" as he was affectionately known, was predeceased by: his parents who were from Barbados, Josephine and Joseph N. Franklin, Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Frances "Rita" Hicks and her husband, John; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Lillian Mitchell, Sr.; three brothers-in-law, Albert, Jr., William, Howard "Ronald" Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Barbara Colt.
He is survived by: his sister, Rosalind Brown of Pleasantville, NJ; his wife of 54 years, Mildred; daughters, Josette Franklin of Los Angeles, CA and Lisa Wilson (Chris) of Jamesburg, NJ; two grandchildren, Bria and Chase Wilson; sisters-in-law, Rosa May Kelly of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Lillian Johnson of Atlantic City, NJ; brother-in-law, Rayenard Mitchell of Galloway, NJ; nieces, Stephanie "Princess" (Stephen) Caldwell and LaVonne "Pookie" Smalls; nephews, Sherman, Sheldon "Yakki" and Jay Hicks; great-nephew, Jairus J. Condry; close friends, Richard Sclafford, Dave Phillips, Bill Lyght, Hillard Preston, and Teddy Thomas; friends and co-workers, Ken Bishop, Jim McKee, Tony Biddle and Don Hiles; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, March 24, 2018, New Hope Baptist Church, 704 Lexington Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Atlantic City Cemetery.
