Obituary of Steven Johnson, Sr.

Steven Daryl Johnson Sr., of Atlantic City, NJ was born on August 10, 1956, in Atlantic City, NJ to Betty Berryman and Herman Eugene Johnson II.

Steven received his wings on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. Steven he was raised in Pleasantville, NJ and graduated from Pleasantville High School, class of 75. He continued his education at ACCC. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he was a Sharpshooter and received an Honorable Discharge. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Union Baptist Temple Church where he served on the Board of Deacons and took great pride in attending Wednesday night bible study. He was employed for over 20 years as the Director of Operations for ACUA where he received numerous awards for his dedication and superior service to the community, retiring in 2011.

Steven appreciated “Date night” with his loving wife Kelleen in addition to traveling, barbecuing, maintaining his yard, which he did an excellent job at and received numerous compliments from friends and strangers passing by. You would also find him washing his car on a sunny day. Steven enjoyed playing basketball, taking long bike rides from Atlantic City to Absecon, where he was employed. He loved being the hosts with the most. He enjoyed eating out especially at Morton’s Steakhouse at the Ceasars Pier in Atlantic City. He enjoyed traveling with the love of his life, Kelly and travelled to California, Texas, New York, Virginia, and Maryland just to name a few.

Steven was a great artist and loved putting puzzles together, he loved “JAMMIN” to Bob Marley music. He loved his children and grandchildren and would light up just seeing them, especially his newest granddaughter, Savannah. His best friend besides his wife was his dog “Buddy”.

Steven is survived by: his loving wife and caretaker Kelleen Johnson of Atlantic City, NJ; Mother, Betty Berryman of Copperas Cove, TX; his children, Tanee Johnson of Swedesboro, NJ, Stephanie (Darnell) Kelly of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Apryl Johnson of Pleasantville, NJ, Steven Johnson II of Atlantic City, NJ, and step-daughter Kenisha Pecot of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Ethan and Savannah Kelly, Steven Johnson III and Taylor Johnson; siblings, Marcia (Eric) Johnson and Rodney (Vicky) Johnson both of Copperas Cove, TX, Brian (Mary) Johnson of Stafford, VA, and Bruce (Stella) Johnson of Absecon, NJ; mother-in-love, Dr. LueVerne Mason of Memphis, TN; two aunts, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.

Steven was predeceased by: father, Herman Eugene Johnson II; sister, Gwendolyn Wilson; brothers, Herman “Gene” Jr., Michael, Craig and Francine Johnson; mother of his three children.

Funeral Services will be 11AM, Monday, February 26, 2018, Union Baptist Temple, Pennsylvania and Drexel Avenues, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM.
