Obituary of Wyatt Johnson
Wyatt Bernard Johnson, III, Esq. 74, of New York, formerly of Atlantic City, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2017, in New York, surrounded by his family. Wyatt was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1943, to Florence Harris Johnson and Reverend Wyatt B. Johnson.
He began his education in the Atlantic City Public Schools. He later matriculated at Lincoln University, Howard University Law School and the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C.
Wyatt was a Social Case Worker for the Atlantic City Community Welfare Board; Director of Alumni Relations at Lincoln University; and a Foreign Service Officer in the United States Diplomatic Corps; where he was stationed in Mexico, Ecuador, Jordan, the Dominican Republic and finally as a Liaison Official in Drug Intervention to South America and Mexico.
He received the Meritorious Honor Award for his negotiations during the Tuna Crisis of 1976, between Ecuador and the United States. He was Director of the Peace Corps in Ecuador. Wyatt received many awards from civic, religions, political and athletic recognitions. This was culminated with a Proclamation from the City Council of New York for betterment of community relations.
Wyatt leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Ramona Johnson; grandson, Miguel Cardy; nephew, Dorian; cousin, Stephanie Young-Abbott; and his longtime companion and domestic partner, Luz M. Martinez.
Memorial services will be 11AM, January 13, 2017, Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church, 423 North Ohio Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10:30AM. Arrangements are entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Inc., Atlantic City where condolences may be left at www.greenidgefuneralhomes.com
