Obituary of Margaret Battle

On August 26, 2017, Margaret M. Battle departed this life at age 89. Lovingly known as “Lady Margaret”, she was born January 28, 1928 to the late George Matthews and Hazel Grant in Norfolk, VA.

Margaret graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount, NC. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at an early age. Upon moving to Atlantic City over 60 years ago, she continued to serve the Lord and joined Second Baptist Church where she was a very active member.

Margaret was employed by Nancy and Sam Katz for many years, helping them raise their two very lovely children Ruth and David Katz. Later she retired form Lennox China after over 21 years of employment, where she received the title “Lady Margaret”.

Margaret met and married the late Frances Battle. From their union came two wonderful sons, Raymond Battle, and the late Maurice Battle. She was also predeceased by her sister Georgie Murphy, two brothers Linwood Matthews, George (Merna) Matthews, and one nephew Alfred Mason.

She leaves to celebrate her life; one son, Raymond (Joyce) Battle; three grandchildren, Dana Marie, Raymond Ryan Battle, and Reyna (Damon) Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren; one nephew, Nathaniel (Crystal) Mason; one niece, Margaret Mason; two very special children, Ruth Katz and David Katz; one godson, Ronald Fluellen; and host of relatives and good friends.

Funeral Services will be 11AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2017, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM.  Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville.
