Obituary of Jean Raphael

Jean Carrol Raphael of Pleasantville quietly passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017.

Jean was born in Colón, Panama on October 14, 1922.  She was one of six siblings in which five predeceased her.  Jean came to the United States in 1958, and has resided in Pleasantville her entire life.  Jean worked several years as a seamstress, making uniforms for the military and twenty five years as a clerk for AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Galloway.

She was a faithful and dedicated member to her church, Faith Baptist, Pleasantville, New Jersey.  She was a member of the Senior Bible Study, Drama Ministry, Senior Usher Ministry, and Seasoned Saints of Faith Baptist Church.  She also volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher and church treasurer.  Jean serviced her community by working as a foster grandparent in Pleasantville Public Schools, helping children on the elementary and high school level.

Jean was a woman of fashion.  Her early years as a seamstress gave her the skills and a keen eye for style.  She was able to create her own attire, and would later model in a fashion shows.

Jean was married and from that union came five children.

She was predeceased by: parents, Lena V. Holmes and Edwin M. Allen; children, baby girl Raphael, Shirley Raphael, and Dennis Raphael.

She is survived by: children, Patricia Thomas and Almon Raphael, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Ramona Raphael; grandchildren, Ezzel (Sabrina), Wellington (Kimberly), Denise, and Precious; great grandchildren, Wellington, Jr., and Noah; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

For those that knew her best, know that her first love was God.

Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, July 29, 2017, Faith Baptist Church, 829 Old Tilton Road, Pleasantville, where friends may call after 9AM. Interment to follow in Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville.
