I just learned of Bruce's death in the current issue of the Rutgers Alumni Magazine. He was fraternity brother of mine at Tau Delta Phi at Rutgers.
Bruce (or "House" as we often called him) was a pillar of Tau Delt, a friendly, good-natured guy who was admired by all who came to know him. His sense of humor was infectious and his quiet, positive demeanor made him someone who was both well respected and well-liked. It's no surprise to any of us who knew him then that he would go on to have such a significant career and to have earned the respect of his community.
My condolences to his family, his colleagues and his community.

He invites us to go to him for anything.

Dear Cherise, Sekaya and Bruce as well as all of the Weekes extended family, I send you my heartfelt sympathy on Bruce's passing. I know he loved his family very very much and always mentioned you whenever I had seen him in the past. I know he also loved the people of Atlantic City and tried to make things better for everyone who came into his courtroom. I am sorry I am unable to get there during this difficult time to extend my condolences in person, but I wanted to let you know of my sympathies. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Carole Cummings

Although I have not seen Bruce since I went to Howard in the 1960s, I remember him warmly going back to our days as team mates playing "Little League baseball for the Northside Union League!" I played 3rd Base, Bruce was our Short-Stop, Buzzy Green played 2nd Base, Richard Riengold was our 1st Baseman.and Wolfred "Sack" Turner was our catcher! I believe Bruce's Dad was our coach. I have had a wonderful life, yet I do recognize that I have spent my life without dear friends such as Bruce. RIP my dear friend.

To the Weekes Family:
I had the pleasure of knowing Bruce for forty (40) years. We worked together in the Atlantic City Municipal Court System for over 20 years. He was a person of great integrity and honor. He always supported Me in all of my endeavors.
When I was appointed to the Margate City Municipal Court Bench, Bruce was there to give Me guidance and positive direction.
Bruce was a terrific athlete in his youth and he enjoyed watching Me in my other "life" as a professional boxing referee.
I'll continue to see Bruce everyday~~~the photo of our swearing in Atlantic City Hall in 1980 ( Public Defender and Prosecutor) is prominently displayed in my home.
With deep respect and sympathy,
Steve Smoger & Family

Bruce Frederick Weekes. A man of great virtue, a man of the people, a great son of Atlantic City and a cherished hometown friend for many, many years.
I can not think of a more well-rounded friend than Bruce "House" Weekes... he had it all. He was respectful, insightful, intelligent, giving, dedicated, honest and understanding. He sincerely cared about people whom he knew as well as people whom he did not know other than their circumstances. He fought earnestly and wisely on the bench for those who were constrained by those legal restraints that would otherwise make them free. These are characteristics and a hallmark of a grand titan for the ages... to be honored by those who knew him and revered by those who seek to learn from his work, his life and his dedication to social justice.
It is hard to say goodbye to such a great friend but I say goodbye -now- because I must.
"Life Balances Itself"

My prayers are with you and your family I respected and loved Judge Weekes. I was the first female court attendant to work with him. I can remember the days when when he would joke with me in the courtroom. He had a beautiful soul and he inspired everyone to be the best person they can. He will be greatly missed by the community.

I had the pleasure of serving as the Assistant Public Defender for Atlantic City when Judge Weekes was on the bench and was always impressed by his fairness and willingness to see the greater good in people. He shared his life and wealth of experience with the citizens of Atlantic City as well as with anyone who crossed his path, always wishing the best for everyone.
When you think about great men and great judges, Bruce Weekes must always be at the top of the list! My condolences to the family...

I go back with the Judge to his days as Public Defender in Atlantic City when I used to fill in for him when he was on vacation. I still have good memories of those days when he'd hang out at my house. Although I hadn't seen him in the last couple of years, I always considered him a good friend. He will be missed.
