Bessie Jackson, age 80, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2010, at her home with family members at her side. She was born on March 7, 1930, to Henry and Mary Harris in Camden, South Carolina, where she attended elementary schools and Jackson High School. She relocated to Atlantic City, where she met and married Eugene Jackson. From that union a daughter, Gloria, was born. In her early years, Bessie was employed by the Seaside Hotel as a waitress for seventeen years, and for twenty five years, she worked at Lenox China, from where she retired. She was a devoted member of Proclaiming His Word Fellowship until her illness. Bessie was (is) a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and "grandma great" (which Skye called her). She was always there when anyone - family or friends - needed her support. Her love for the Lord and reading her Bible was her main goals. For many years, she enjoyed traveling to Oklahoma with friends for Bible retreat meetings during the summer. Her favorite hymn was "How Great Thou Art". Anyone who knew Bessie, knew she loved to shop and had plenty of everything. She didn't watch much television, however, she did watch basketball when Charles Barkley (Mr. Sir Charles) played, and golf - but only when Tiger Woods was on the green. Bessie was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Jackson; and sisters, Louvenia Glenn and Geneva Trusty. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her daughter, Gloria Thomas; granddaughter, Shavonne Carr and fiance' Aaron Best; great grandson, Skye Best; brothers, Daniel Harris (Rebecca), Herbert Harris (Edna) and Ernest Harris; sister, Esther Clemons; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
