Clarence Carter "Grundy" Davenport

Clarence Carter Davenport, Jr., "Grundy" or "CC", as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was born on August 8, 1954, to Theresa Y. (Cardoze) and Clarence C. Davenport Sr., in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He made his journey home when he passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

As a child Grundy was a member of his elementary school glee club. As a young man Grundy was a member of the choir at Community Baptist Church. He later found himself at home singing with the choir at New Hope Baptist Church. As an active member of New Hope, Grundy was involved with the youth choir, served as a Deacon and a Trustee. He was a member of the John Howard Gospel Caravan. Grundy was also an original member of the Junior Trail Blazers Sportsman Club of New Jersey. Grundy was happiest when he was singing, fishing or hunting.

After graduating from the Atlantic City High School, Clarence attended Glassboro State College and Atlantic Cape Community College. Before entering into and completing a 30 plus-year career with Atlantic County Social Services, he worked as a teacher's assistant at Massachusetts Avenue School, and as an assistant manager of the restaurant in Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino. Unknown to many, Clarence was a self-taught success story. CC began his career as an Income Maintenance Technician. He then became interested in information system technology in the early 1980s. CC taught himself the basics in programming and learned to incorporate various systems applications into his job. Thirty plus years later he retired as a Senior Systems Analyst with the Department of Family and Community Development.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Theresa Y. and Clarence C. Davenport, Sr.

Grundy leaves to cherish his fond memories: his brothers, Terence Davenport (Veronica) of Woodbridge, Virginia and Anthony Ward (Rose) of Pleasantville, New Jersey; aunt, Leslie Zenj-Ra (Jasim) of Manchester, New Jersey; sister/cousin, Kim Foster of Atlantic City, New Jersey; two additional sister's in-law, Vanessa of Dallas, Texas and Charlene of Los Angeles, California; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
