Delores Kaye Pemberton

Delores Kaye (Saunders) Pemberton, 75 of Mays Landing, New Jersey, formerly of Buchanan, Virginia, was called home on Friday, May 6, 2022. She was born April 8, 1947, in Vivian, West Virginia, and moved to Buchanan, Virginia at the age of 8.

Delores was a graduate of Central Academy School in Fincastle, Virginia and Star Tech School's accredited Medical Assistant Program.

Delores was active in her community and a member of the local NAACP. She joined First Baptist Church in Buchanan, Virginia at an early age and later became an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pleasantville, New Jersey. Delores worked at Peeks of Otter Lodge in Bedford, Virginia. In 1966, Delores relocated to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she worked for The Prudential Insurance Company for 30 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked in Human Resources at Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Delores was a very caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. she was also a mother to many of her children's friends. She loved to talk, laugh and enjoy spending time with friends and family. She was very supportive to her children and helped to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was supportive in every way she could and always had a word of encouragement. She always knew what they wanted or needed. She always seemed to purchase the perfect gift as well. Delores was known for helping others when needed and she even housed several people in her home when they were down on their luck.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Ruth (Jones) and James Earlie Saunders; loving sister, Delcinia E (Saunders) Willis.

Delores leaves to cherish her fond memories: her sons, Kevin Pemberton of Mays Landing, New Jersey and Charles Pemberton, Jr., of Brigantine, New Jersey; daughter, LaNita Pemberton of Nashville, Tennessee; ex-husband, Charles Pemberton, Sr; sisters, Shirley L. Saunders of Buchanan, Virginia, Faye Burks (Clyde) of Roanoke, Virginia; brother, Rev. James Saunders (Valerie) of Goodview; grandchildren, Dashonn, Kavonna, Amalinally, Tohmir, Jamir, Jasleen and Jaeleen Pemberton; great granddaughter, Jeicee and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be 3pm to 5pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Mt Zion Baptist Church, 353 South New Road, Pleasantville, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be Noon Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, Virginia, where family and friends may view from 11AM to Noon. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Buchanan, Virginia.
