John Edison Williams of Absecon, New Jersey, on Monday, July 5, 2021, entered into eternal life with his loving wife and extended family by his side. He was born in Warrenton, North Carolina, to Daisy Mae (Kearney) and William Epps Williams on May 24. He attended the local schools and graduated from John R. Hawkins High School, in Warrenton, North Carolina.
After graduating high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force, and retired after 20 years of service. After retiring, he moved to Bronx, New York, where he worked for the YMCA and taught swimming. While working at the YMCA he earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.
John later relocated to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he gained employment in the casino as a dealer.
He was a dedicated member of the Union Baptist Temple in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for several years. He was committed to and loved his church. John was a member of the Trustee Board and the Host/Hostess Ministry. He loved to attend Sunday School and Bible Study.
Some of John's hobbies were: hunting, fishing and swimming. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He enjoyed watching MSNBC and you could find him watching it on a daily basis.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, William Epps and Daisy Mae Williams; brothers, William and George Williams; sister, Nancy Williams.
John leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his loving memories: his loving and devoted wife and caretaker, Dorothy Jowers Williams of Absecon, New Jersey; daughter, Lisa Joe Williams of Charleston, South Carolina; sister, Ruth Williams of Absecon, New Jersey; step-son, Wilbur A. Jowers of Columbia, South Carolina; four step-grandchildren, Tony, Tremaine, Guyron and Tisha all of Columbia, South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Patricia Atkinson of Long Island, New York and Patricia Lawrence of Bronx, New York; brothers-in-law, James Jowers (Debra) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jethro Jowers of San Antonio, Texas and James McCaskill of Carson California; nephews, George and Darren Williams; nieces, Jackie Williams and Lavonna Atkinson Williams (Brandon), and Khiana; God-daughters, Kelleen Johnson and Sheree Smith; and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Noon Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Union Baptist Temple, Pennsylvania and Adriatic Avenues, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where friends may call from 11AM.
