On Sunday, November 18, 1973, Mary and William Goodrum—and the world—were blessed with the gift of Neema. God shared her with us for 47 years before calling her home. Neema Battle Goodrum left this life to join her father, William Lawrence Goodrum, in Heaven on March 22, 2021. She is survived: by her mother, Mary Goodrum (née Battle); two sisters, Deidre Townsend and Malaika Jamison (Elliott); brother Mtume Goodrum (Veronica); and nieces and nephews Jerome Townsend II, Brandon Townsend, Miles Townsend, Jahmir Jamison, Jayshaun Jamison, Jayla Jamison, William Goodrum, Jazmyn Jamison, and Savannah Goodrum. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends who loved her. Neema defied easy categorization, given her wide-ranging interests: motorcyclist, line dancer, workout enthusiast, and devoted aunt were all roles she relished. She was also a quick-witted jokester, always ready with a one-liner or a wry observation that could make a room erupt into laughter. For all her abilities and interests, Neema's great passion in life, without question, was line dancing. She would venture near and far to participate in her passion with the soul line dance group, Tri-City Hustlerz. She also had special relationships with the 757 Crew and many others. Her skills, of course, extended well beyond the dance floor. We all know that Neema could also "throw down" in the kitchen. The family's annual Christmas Breakfast will not be the same without her blissful grits, let alone her irrepressible smile and irreplaceable physical presence. But her spirit will be with us always. In living her life to the fullest, Neema gave everyone she came into contact with a gift of many facets—love, loyalty, generosity, compassion, and of course, crazy antics. It is a gift that will remain with us for life as we cherish her memory. For that, we give thanks and celebrate the life of Neema. The family is truly blessed for having experienced Neema, her friends are truly blessed for having experienced Neema, and the world is truly blessed for having experienced Neema. As we mourn having to say goodbye for now, we can take comfort in knowing that Neema is dancing in Heaven. Neema, we miss you, we love you, and will hold you in our hearts forever. Graveside funeral serivces will be 1PM, Wednesday, March 31, 2021, Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Moss Mill Road, Egg Harbor City. Masks and social distancing protocols will be required. Arrangements entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Homes, Atlantic City, where condolecnes will may be left.
