Carolyn Elizabeth Tennant, 57, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, was born July 24, 1963, to Helen Tennant and Jamal Dawud in the Atlantic City Hospital, Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Alfred Barksdale, who she loved dearly. Carolyn transitioned on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Carolyn attended the Atlantic City Public Schools and graduated from Atlantic City High School with the Class of 1981. In high school, Carolyn was a member and became president of the Lafayes Club and remained close friends with the members until her demise. After graduating from high school, Carolyn attended Atlantic Community College. Carolyn gained employment at an early age, 14, with The Atlantic City's summer youth program which led her to work for the City of Atlantic City in the Tax and Commissioner's Office; Bally's Park Place as a Security Guard; and as a Teacher's Aide with the family business, Tennant's Day Care Center. "Carol", as she was affectionately called, was a fun, loving and outgoing person. She had a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was always optimistic, making even the toughest situation bearable. She was willing to help anyone in need. Carol was a family-oriented person who would go above and beyond for her children, grandchildren and family. Carol served as a true confidant to many. She will be GREATLY MISSED. Carolyn was a member of Community Holy Temple (COGIC) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, under the leadership of Elder J.J. Thomas where she was a member of the Choir, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and Usher. That church became New Redeemed Deliverance Temple (COGIC) under the leadership of Elder Thomas C. Michaels, Sr. She also attended Greater Love Chapel (COGIC) in Elwood, New Jersey, under the leadership of Elder Dennis Clybourn. Carolyn is predeceased by: father, Jamal Dawud; paternal grandmother, Christine L. Sims; maternal grandparents, Tommie and George Thomas Tennant; great aunt, Mary Crawford; brother, Bruce Montague; grandson, Micah Tennant; aunts, Janie Jones, Gyrene Williams, Gwendolyn Tennant, and Joyce McKethan. Carolyn leaves to cherish her fond memories: son, Anthony L. McQueen Jr.; daughters, Angela A. Tennant and Amelia L. Tennant; mother, Helen Tennant; brother, Angelo Tennant Sr.; sister, Monica Y. Tennant; six grandchildren who she ADORED!!!, Anthony McQueen Ill, Malachi Tennant, Machiah Tennant, Lovelle McQueen, Julianna McQueen (Caretaker) and Asiana McQueen; special nephew, Angelo Tennant Jr.; niece, Erica B. Tennant, who she helped raise; niece, Samirah Jones; nephew, Tarik Hopkins; great-nephew, Ahseem Mears; uncles, Bernard Tennant, Sr. (Margie), Raymond Tennant, Jay and Robin Sims; aunts, Delores Blocker, Odessa Tennant-Roberts (Gene) and Carolyn Sims; godmother, Barbara Molley; godbrother, Abdul-Basir Molley; godchildren, Shannon Dobbs-Beltran, Abdus Samaad and Miracle Hamilton; special cousin; Sabrina Cuevas, and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, September 19, 2020, Greater Love Chapel, Prince Albert Street, Elwood, NJ, where friends may call from 10A. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville.
