Robert Stanford Brooks, 83, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020, surrounded by family. He was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Florence Mae (Collins) and John Russell Brooks. He was educated in the Atlantic City Public Schools and was a graduate of the Atlantic City High School, class of 1954. After high school, Robert served six years in the United States Navy. He enjoyed driving tractor trailers for Railway Express in New York City before joining the Atlantic City Police Department. Robert worked in the K-9 unit for many years with his K-9 partner, Rex. Robert and Rex became lifelong friends. Robert later earned the rank of Sergeant. Robert had various hobbies such as: horse back riding, scuba diving and fishing. He also enjoyed riding motor cycles, Harley Davidson only, and the art of karate in which he was a registered black belt. Robert was not only active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, but in the community as well as a member of neighborhood watch. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Florence and John Brooks; and grandson, Robert S. Brooks, II. Robert leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Lorna C. Brooks, Rodney R. Brooks (Kimberly), Angela M. Brooks-Pittman, Tamika Abdul (Yasin) and Jada L. Brooks; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends. Graveside services will be 11AM Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in Atlantic City Cemetery, Washington Avenue and New Road, Pleasantville, New Jersey.
