Deacon Purman Snookey Smith, 84, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2019. Deacon Smith was born August 2, 1934, in Fort Pierce, Florida, to Robert Travies and Rosa Lee Holloway-Smith
He was an active member of the Church of God in Christ, Fairton, New Jersey, under the leadership of Apostle Mary L. Woods, where he held the ministry of Deacon for many years.
Deacon Smith enjoyed fishing, bike riding, hiking and reading the Holy Bible. He was especially known for his words of wisdom. He attended the Bridgeton Public School System and served in the United States Army. He worked for Silverton Yachts formerly of Millville for many years before retiring.
Deacon Smith was predeceased by: his wife of 54 years, Minnie Lee Smith, four sons, Harvey, Alfonso, Eddie and Nathaniel Smith; parents, Robert Travies and Rosa Lee Holloway-Smith; brothers, Alfonso McCullough; sister, Daisy Lee Smith; sons in law, Alexander Kates, David Long and Donald Jones, Sr.; granddaughter, A'aliah Scott.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: daughters, Barbara Kates, Larcenia Smith, Roberta Heggs, Jacquetta Long, Viola Heggs, Rosalind Smith-Scott (Herman), Yvonne and Denise Jones; sons, Purman Jr. and Harvey Smith, Purman Jones, William, Alfonso and Herman Heggs; brother, Harvey McCullough; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11AM Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Glory Tabernacle, 1018 Buckshutem Road, Bridgeton, New Jersey, where friends may call from 9AM. Interment Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Hopewell Township, New Jersey.
