On Friday March 1, 2019, our beloved mother was called home by the spirit of comfort.
Iris was born September 1, 1945, in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Beatrice H. Jones and Ira L. Collins.
Iris was educated in the Atlantic County public school system. Being raised with good work ethics; Iris was always industrious. She began working as an Atlantic City Auxiliary Police officer and later at FW Woolworths in New York City. Her final job before retirement was at the Flagship Resort.
Iris loved writing poetry, singing, and listening to music. She was beautiful and versatile, with a bubbly personality. She loved to laugh and tell jokes and her favorite phrase was "My name is Ruth and I tell the truth" Iris was preceded in death by her parents: Beatrice and Ira Collins; two children, Lavonne D. Roberts and Mwanza A. Kemal; two brothers, Raymond Collins, Sr. and Alvin Collins; one sister, Marie Collins.
Left to cherish her memories is a son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Karen Roberts of Bronx NY; two daughters, Janine Roberts of Bronx NY, and Nicole Coleman of South Boston VA and a son-in-law, Michael Coleman of South Boston VA; two brothers, Daniel Collins and Emmanuel Collins of Atlantic City, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 3PM, Thursday, March 7, 2019, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 2PM.
