Mabel Emma Weldon, 86, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2018. Mabel was the second of eighteen children born to Mabel E. (Gross) and Clarence L. Wilson, Sr. She was born September 28, 1932, in Salem, New Jersey.
Mabel grew up on the family farm in Bushtown and helped with many of the farm chores, which included working in the fields, milking the cow, and a host of other household duties. It was here that she learned the value of hard work, dedication to family, and the belief and commitment to serving God.
Mabel graduated from Salem High School. She later attended Salem County Community College where she studied to become and LPN. She worked as a nurse at Christiana Hospital in Christiana, Delaware until she retired in 1998. Mabel loved to sew and made many of her own clothes.
In 1975, Mabel joined Ephesus Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Bishop William Caldwell, Sr. This was the church that her father helped build and also served as assistant pastor for forty years. She loved her church and served as an Evangelist, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary. Mabel remained a faithful member and minister at Tabernacle of Praise Holy Church until her death.
Mabel was married to Allen Sye, Sr. until his death in 1971. She later married James Weldon, he died in 1998.
Mabel is survived by: seven children, Yvonne Brooks (Victor) of Bridgeton, NJ, Orvyl Wilson (Nicol) Willingboro, NJ, Allen Sye, Jr., of Whitewater, WI, Jerome Sye (Joan) of Hampton, VA, Michelle Michalski (Steve) of Salem, NJ, Jeffery Sye of Marshalltown, NJ, Vincent Sye (Judy) of Verona, WI; four brothers, William Wilson, Sr. (Mary), Robert Wilson, Harvey Wilson and Elmer Wilson (Mary Francis); five sisters, Mary Brown, Betty Toland (Daniel), Elaine Smith, Evelyn Porter (Charles) and Doris Mathews; sisters-in-law, Catherine Wilson, Marie Wilson, Brenda Wilson and Carol Wilson; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mabel was predeceased by: parents, Mabel and Clarence Wilson; daughter, Deborah Sye; grandson, Jaylund Sye; six brothers, Clarence Jr., (Buster), Thomas, Howard, John and Kenneth Wilson; two sisters, Catherine Davis and Charlotte Hall (Lottie); daughter-in-law, Imelda Sye (Mel).
Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, January 5, 2019, Tabernacle of Praise Holy Church, 393 Magnolia Street, Salem, NJ, where friends may call from 9AM. Interment to follow in Eglington Cemetery, Clarkesboro, NJ.
