Obituary of Robert Lawrence

Robert Frank Lawrence Jr., 69, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017. The son of Nellie and Robert Lawrence, Sr., he was born October 8, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY. Robert was the first of two children.

At an early age Robert became a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He was educated in Brooklyn, New York where he attended the public school system and graduated from George W. Wingate High School. On January 19, 1967, Robert enlisted into the United States Army 25th Division Infantry Tropica Lightning. He was deployed to Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart. He became a retired Veteran.

Later on life, Robert took on the occupation of Income Maintenance Specialist, but that wasn't enough for him. From 1982 to 2011 he began a career at Fisher Brothers starting out as a security guard, and eventually worked his way up to Supervisor. Robert finally became Fire Safety Director. In 2008 he went back to school and graduated top of his class from John Jay College.

Robert was later reunited with the love of his life, Yvonne Johnson, whom he simply called "Baby". The two married in 1995 and lived together in Somers Point, NJ. He joined Calvary Baptist Church in 1994. He was known as a great singer, story teller, cook, and dancer. A true New Yorker who loved his family. An avid history buff, Robert was also a huge fan of the New York Giants, and the Mets.

A man among men, Robert always gave his last to help someone else. He was an example of what a real man should be: Strong, loving, caring, confident, respectful, and all around a great man.

Robert is predeceased by: parents, Nellie and Robert Lawrence, Sr.; brother-in-law, Willie Jackson, Sr.

He leaves to cherish in his loving memory: his loving wife, Yvonne Lawrence; children, Robert F. Lawrence III, Irene Anderson, Yolanda Lawrence, Dilana Lawrence, Talana Allen, Serena Swaggerty, Frank Lawrence and Karen Lawrence; sisters, Delores McQueen of Atlantic City, NJ and Regina Jackson of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Cindy Lawrence, Destiny Lawrence (Michael) Wall, Desarae Rivera, Kenny Allen, Jr., Chanese Young, Tyrell Swaggerty, Rahleek Lawrence, Diamond Lawrence, Diamonique Lawrence, Kennedy Anderson, Madison Anderson, Amaya Lawrence, Aniya Lawrence, Frank Lawrence, Jr.; great grandchildren, Michael Wall, Jr., Jessiah Wall, and Jaceyon Sando; special aunt, Rheba Lawrence; aunt, Della Whiting; special nieces, Jamanah Camper, Margaret Camper (Chec-Chec), Brandi Jackson; special nephew, Willie Jackson, Jr.; special cousins, Arnitha Harrison, Sheila Frances (deceased), Stella Dougherty, Diane Cond, Margie Gunter, Dilana Miller (Pete), Darnell Kirkland, Randall Kirkland, Donnie Brooks, Abraham Hamilton, Sudan Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Novella Parker, Vernella Bryant, Mary Johnson; brother-in-law, Willie Johnson; honorary daughters, Latonya Bryant-Haines and Darlene Price; honorary sons, Kenny Allen, Sr. and Channy Lee Young; god-sister, Cynthia Ingrim; god-son, Robert Delarosa; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11AM, Friday, November 17, 2017, Faith Baptist Church, 829 Tilton Road, Pleasantville, NJ, where friends may call from 9AM. Interment Friday, November 17, 2017, Atlantic City Cemetery, Pleasantville, NJ.
