Obituary of Ophelia Carter

Ophelia Carter was born June 21st, 1923, in Augusta, Georgia to the late Sarah and Zack Pollard. She was a vivacious and loving child who touched everyone she met. She attended Richmond County schools in Augusta, Georgia.

In 1940, Ophelia met and married the late William F. Carter. Together with love and dedication, they had three children, Jack, Mary, and Blanch Carter. The love created by God that sealed the bond between their children is unbreakable to this day.

In the late 1940's, the Carter family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they resided for more than 60 years. During that time, Ophelia spent her career as a seamstress for the United States government.

Ophelia was a member of Corinthian Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she was a faithful member and follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A quiet yet, strong and dedicated wife and mother, Ophelia was in life the glue that held the family together. Ophelia is survived by: her son, Jack Carter (Rose); daughter, Mary Mishoe (Lonnie, Jr.); granddaughters, Taze Sarvis, Jackie Blue, and Gloria Salters; grandson, Lonnie Mishoe, III (Nicole); great-grandchildren, Lonnie, Kayla, Hailey, Savannah, James, Asaad, Ahmad, Brittany, Courtney, Shane Rico, Tiffany, Moyé and Nigel; eight sisters, Deloris Johnson, Lenora James, Thelma Avery, Gwendolyn Pollard, Essie Bryant, Eunice Blanchard, Margaret Choice and Ida Green; twin brothers, Lester and Leslie Pollard; nephew, Allen; niece, Gwen, and a host of other family members. She is preceded in death by: her husband, William; sisters, Inez, Zeline and Elize; brothers, James and Joe; daughter, Blanch; and grandson, David.
