Gifford Jay Jackson 56, of Atlantic City, affectionately known as Jay-Jay, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center City Campus in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Jay-Jay was born on September 11, 1961, to Neota (English) Jackson and Gilbert Jackson.
Gifford attended Pleasantville public schools and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1979. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was an Airman First Class. Gifford was awarded an honorable discharge and went on to pursue a career in culinary arts.
Gifford was a skillful handyman that was willing to help anyone in need. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and crabbing as well as spending quality time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Gifford was a jokester with a heart of gold. His favorite nickname for Antwan was “Big Head” and “Stinka” for Latonya. He would greet them with those names even in their adulthood and laugh hysterically at their embarrassment.
He was predeceased by: parents, Neota and Gilbert Jackson; brother, Gilbert English.
Gifford is survived by: children, Antwan Jackson (Lateefa), Latonya Hypolite (Corey) and Lamar Hickerson; siblings, James English, Celeste English, Constance English and Kevin Jackson; seven grandchildren, Antwan Jr, Ha’Neef, Qua’Neef, Emani, Ja’Leeya, Jayda and Corey Jr.; childhood friends, Charles “Choo-Choo” Brooks and Jerome Page; a special friend, Joanne Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Noon Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Greenidge Funeral Homes, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment Lincoln Memorial Park.
