Melvina Braxton, 81, on May 9, 2017, with peaceful transition God called his angel back to his arms. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, June 29, 1935, to Mary and Houston Taylor. Then she moved to Atlantic City, NJ in 1942. She attended Atlantic City Public Schools. She was an Honorary Deaconess at Second Baptist Church.
As a community Activist, Melvina enjoyed helping children. She was the founder of the Rayette’s Drill Team. She was also a member of the American Legion, where she was drum majorette and a member of the Elks Lodge and Royal Dobbs Sorority.
She was employed with Atlantic City Medical Center as a Surgical Tech for many years, an outreach representative for Caring, Inc., and a government employee for the City of Philadelphia.
She is predeceased by her parents and loving husband, William Braxton. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her daughters, Marilyn Scott, Marva and Latanya Thompson; six grandchildren, Danita Davis (Abdur Rashid), LaQue Mason (LaToya), Javon Scott (Renee), Randy, Shayonne and Stephon Thompson; ten great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Diane Robinson; and special daughter and son, Clara Petway and Mack Williams; goddaughter, Tamika Young; and special aunt, Jean Anderson (John); and a host of family and friends.
Funeral Services will be 11AM, Friday, May 19, 2017, Second Baptist Church, 110 Rev. Dr. I.S. Cole Plaza, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Egg Harbor City Cemetery.
