William Mercy Simms, passed away, Monday, May 1, 2017. He was on born July 21, 1950, to Lillian (Robinson) and Walter B. Simms. He was a lifetime resident of Atlantic City, New Jersey where he attended the local schools. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent the next 20 years serving his country. William enjoyed cooking and was a career chef in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy, William returned to Atlantic City where he worked various jobs -- from cooking at the Ranch House on the Boardwalk to working as an inspector at FAA in Pomona.
William, “Billy”, to his family and friends always enjoyed a good laugh and always had a joke to tell you. One of his signature looks was the "box hair-cut". He also enjoyed going to the casino and playing the lottery.
He is predeceased by: his parents; siblings, Ellastine Weekes, Joyce Ross, Deborah and Walter Simms, Jr.; and brother-in-law, William Weekes.
Mourning his loss are: his companion, Hannah Marie Gilliard of Atlantic City, NJ; his devoted children, William Mercy Simms, Jr. of Galloway, NJ and Dana Michele Mullen of Baltimore, MD; siblings, Robert Simms of Atlantic City and Donna Simms of North Carolina; granddaughter, Delaney Madison Culbreth of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be 11AM, Saturday, May 13, 2017, Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow at family convenience in Atlantic County Veteran’s Cemetery, Estell Manor.
